Bruno Mars Readies New Album for November

The Grammy-winning singer is reportedly planning to release a new album before 2017 arrives. Atlantic Records insiders tell HITS Daily Double that Mars is indeed “recording an album for November release.”
Bruno’s new work has been bubbling for some time. In January, he told fans that he was “on a mission” to “make an album I’m genuinely proud of.”

In April, Missy Elliott said she heard some tracks off the new album and was impressed. “We laughed & laughed the whole night then he played me some A$$ songs 4 his album,” she tweeted. “Whewwww #INCREDIBLE!”
The album will follow 2012’s Unorthodox Jukebox, which spawned
the hit singles “Locked Out of Heaven,” “Treasure,” and “Young Girls.” The project debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart upon its release.

Gucci Mane Is Out of Prison

Gucci Mane is a free man.
After nearly three years in a federal prison on gun and drug charges, the iconic Atlanta rapper was officially released, according to multiple sources. He had most recently been held in a federal penitentiary in Indiana after pleading guilty in May 2014, receiving a 39-month sentence. He was arrested Sept. 13, 2013, after a bizarre multi-day Twitter tirade that took aim at several members of the hip-hop community and music industry at large.
According to Gucci's lawyer, Drew Findling, several months ago Findling and Gucci's legal team filed a motion to reduce the rapper's jail time by approximately six months, and Gucci was accordingly released this morning. He will be held in home confinement for a short period, after which he will immediately transition to supervised release, the federal version of probation. In the meantime, Gucci is back in Georgia and will return to being a recording artist, Findling says.
While behind bars, Gucci -- widely regarded as one of the most influential Atlanta rappers of the last decade, if not hip-hop as a whole -- didn't stay idle, releasing more than a dozen mixtapes from prison and collaborating with the likes of
Migos , Young Thug, Rich the Kid and Peewee Longway , among many others. The common "Free Gucci!" or "Free Guwop" (one of his myriad nicknames) catchphrase has popped up in a slew of hip-hop songs in the past few years.

Desiigner Announces "Life Of Desiigner" Album

Desiigner revealed in an interview with The KISS Hip Hop Show that his debut album will be titled the same name as his social media handles, Life of Desiigner .
The album will be executive produced by Mike Dean, who reported the news in an interview where he addressed the comparisons between
Desiigner and Future .
"He’s a lot more of an artist than you think he is," the producer said. "He’s not just some Future knockoff. He talks like that -- he sounds like he’s got Auto-Tune on his voice in real life. He talks like Future raps, which is weird."
Desiigner further details his own musical ascent in the recent interview. After he got shot at the age of 14, Desiigner says he turned his life around. Now, the 19-year-old has his big break with the hit single, "Panda," which was the subject of numerous remixes and caught the attention of Kanye West , who sampled the song on The Life of Pablo . Yeezy signed the Brooklyn, New York rapper to his
G.O.O.D. Music label.
He details meeting West and says his manager made the connection that brought him to Los Angeles.
"She said, 'You're going to meet Kanye.' It just happened," he says. "I got on the phone, talked to him. I heard his voice, it was like oh, man, it was crazy."

A$AP Rocky Dropped From Stage Dive Lawsuit

A$AP Rocky is in the clear after a woman dropped him from her lawsuit against the A$AP Mob. theJasmineBRAND.com reports that Krystina Clowes filed new documents yesterday (May 23) in her case seeking damages for injuries allegedly sustained while attending an A$AP Mob show and she is no longer suing the At.Long.Last.A$AP. rapper.
Clowes, who is demanding more than $225,000, says she attended the " Under The Influence" Tour headlined by A$AP Rocky and Wiz Khalifa in 2013. When the rest of A$AP Mob came out to join the Harlem, New York rapper, Young Shabba did a stage dive into the crowd and she claims he landed on top of her.
At the show, she sought medical attention and filed a report. She was then taken to a local hospital in an ambulance. Clowes says she has continued needing medical attention as her back heals.
The woman sued A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg , Young Shabba and promoter Live Nation for damages. She says that the rappers' behavior and frequent stage diving is dangerous to concertgoers and Live Nation should be held responsible for her injuries for not preventing them from engaging in such antics. The company is fighting back, claiming it had no control over the performers' actions and did not know Young Shabba was going to jump into the crowd.
The suit against the remaining parties continues.
In 2014, a woman won $1.4 million from Fishbone after its lead singer did a stage dive and she broke her skull and collarbone. The singer continued stage diving at subsequent shows, which helped the judge make the final decision to award the money to the victim.

Lil Wayne Axes Settlement Talks With Birdman & Cash Money Records

Lil Wayne is officially no longer entertaining settlement talks with Cash Money Records and Birdman, TMZ reports.
Tunechi filed a 21-page lawsuit against his label January of last year for withholding millions of dollars from him in relation to Tha Carter V release ($8 million in advance and another $2 million upon completion). Lil Wayne claims he's seen none of the money that he's contractually owed.
Sources tell TMZ that talks fell out within the past month, with the topic of discussion being centered around the release of Tha Carter V which apparently went no where. The the 33-year-old Young Money boss has now terminated all talks with Cash Money.
Before filing the lawsuit in early 2015, Wayne blasted the record company on Twitter for the album's delay a month prior.
"I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain't that easy," Lil Wayne said. "I am a prisoner and so is my creativity   Again,I am truly sorry and I don't blame ya if ya fed up with waiting 4 me & this album. But thk u."
Since then, rumors have swirled of Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne leaving Cash Money for mismanagement. Birdman went on record saying the three of them aren't going anywhere.
When it looked like a resolution was nigh,
Weezy F. Baby was photographed with Baby's arch-nemesis' Trick Daddy and Rick Ross in April, at Beyonce's Formation World Tour stop in Miami. TMZ's source reveals that is when talks allegedly broke down.
The two Miami rappers publicly denounced Birdman's actions towards Lil Wayne on separate occasions during their interviews on Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club. Those discussions didn't sit too well with Birdman prompting him to confront Charlamagne Tha God on air for "playing" with his name and demanded that he put some "respek" on it . Rick Ross sent Charlamange a few Belair black bottles after the heated exchange went viral.
Furthermore, Lil Wayne made his feelings crystal clear this past weekend during his performance at The Denver Annual 420 Rally, shouting out, "fuck Cash Money" on stage.
In March, Mannie Fresh gave some insight into Lil Wayne and Birdman's progression towards reconciliation, or lack thereof, revealing that the pair had yet to make up.
Tha Carter V has yet to receive a release date.
Young Thug however, has his own plans of releasing a mixtape with the same title if it doesn't drop soon.

MC Hammer: "Hip Hop Is In Good Hands"

MC Hammer expresses confidence in the current path of Hip Hop.
While speaking with CBS News recently, MC Hammer applauded the likes of Kanye West, Drake, and Chance The Rapper. He also expressed his belief that thanks to the artists mentioned, "Hip Hop is in good hands."
In regards to Kanye , Hammer shared his belief that the Chicago lyricist "understands how to perfect the moment or create the moment." He then offered his thoughts on Chance's newly-released Coloring Book mixtape, stating that it boasts the "touch points and sensibilities of hip-hop."
The musician also spoke on prominent, 90s dance tracks like "2 Legit 2 Quit" having an influence on the current sound of Hip Hop.
"There's a tremendous amount of dancing going on, and that was the foundation we laid, going from the late '80s into the '90s, celebrating the art of dance, beats, performance, music," MC Hammer said.
In addition to speaking on 'Ye and Drizzy, the "Hammer Time" rapper also made time for nostalgia during his interview, recalling the star-studded "2 Legit 2 Quit" music video.
"That whole project we had a lot of fun," he said. "We had the Addams family involved in that project -- so many people involved in that project. It's just a historic video, so we're going to celebrate the music."

Chris Brown Accused Of Ordering Heavy-Handed Regulation Against Photographer

No matter what,
Chris Brown just cannot seem to steer himself clear of trouble.
Just over a week after his last bout of apparent anti-social behavior, the singer-songwriter is being accused of ordering some heavy-handed regulation against a photographer at a party on a private yacht in Fort Lauderdale, Florida last weekend.
According to TMZ , photographer Michael Watts claims to have been taking snaps of Chris Brown and Warren Sapp when the singer flipped.
Citing the police report filed by Watts, the publication reports that Chris Brown lashed out during a photograph with fellow R&B crooner Tank (viewable below), yelling: “This ain’t no press release, you’re done!”
Watts subsequently claims that a member of Chris Brown’s security detail shoved him, forcing him to spin around and causing the $1,200 lens of his Cannon camera to crack against a wall. Watts says he then left the party to avoid any further confrontation.
It’s reported that Chris Brown vigorously denies that his security hit anyone.

Kanye West 1997 Beat Tape Surfaces

Before Kanye West took over the mic, he made a name for himself as a producer for many.
On his latest LP, The Life of Pablo, West flexed his production muscle again, but now a beat tape from 1997 has resurfaced. The eight-track project was uploaded by a user named Trilly Madison.
KanyeToThe dug up the songs that two of the beats turned into. One was allegedly used for a Grav song and another one is for "What You Do To Me," a cut from Infamous Syndicate's Changing The Game album.
Other artists West built his production through include Jay Z, whom he worked with on The Blueprint and with The Dynasty Roc La Familia , Scarface on The Fix and Beanie Sigel on The Truth.
He talked about his transformation from a local Chicago producer to renowned rapper on "Last Call" from The College Dropout.
"After they picked that 'Truth' beat I was figuring I was gonna do some more work but shit just wasn't poppin off like that," he says. "I was stayin in Chicago, I had my own apartment, I be doin like, just beats for local acts just to try to keep the lights on, and then to go out and buy, get a Pelle Pelle off lay-away,get some Jordans or something or get a TechnoMarine, that's what we wore back then I made this one beat where I sped up this Harold Melvin sample I played it for Hip over the phone, he's like, 'Oh, yo that shit is crazy Jay might want it for this compilation album he doin, called The Dynasty .'"

Snoop Dogg's New Album Is On Its Way

Besides rebuilding his DoggyStyle Records, Snoop Dogg is ready to release his next solo LP, more than 20 years after the release of the label's namesake Doggy Style . The new album is slated to drop July 1, according to an Instagram post and Facebook live session that
Snoop Dogg hosted today (May 23).
The Long Beach legend released his " Late Nights " single on 4/20.
For his new album, Snoop has been cooking with Just Blaze , who discussed the direction that they are working towards.
"Some of the stuff that I’ve been working on lately just kind of felt like an updated version of that old Death Row sound, kind of an updated G-Funk," he says. "I just started working on these tracks and they had a lot of those similar elements, just felt like newer versions of that feeling."
DoggyStyle and The Doggfather were both released on Death Row Records.
The Doggfather's last output was Bush , which was released last May. This project was exclusively produced by Pharrell.
Snoop Dogg is set to embark on "The High Road Tour " with Wiz Khalifa, which starts July 20, where people can probably expect him to perform some of his new tracks.

The 10 Best Performances at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards

This year’s Billboard Music Awards were packed with top-tier performances across genres. Now that we know who took home the hardware , it's time to see who put on the best show -- read on for the night's top performances.
Red Carpet Photos, Performances and More
10) DNCE, “Cake by the Ocean”
DNCE had the crowd on their feet with its infectious hit “Cake By The Ocean” -- with piles of red balloons and confetti, the quartet kept the party atmosphere in full effect as they bounced through the T-Mobile Arena. They even snuck in a few instrumental features, as guitarist JinJoo Lee took a brief solo and bassist Cole Whittle flung around his guitar to wrap up the performance.
9) Fifth Harmony, “Work From Home”
Fifth Harmony turned up the heat with their performance of flirtatious hit “Work From Home” -- in sequined leotards, the quintet showed off their twerking (as well as a few more salacious dance moves) in front of a post-apocalyptic set. They were eventually joined by Ty Dolla $ign , who looked fairly amused by the whole endeavor.
8) Justin Bieber, “Company”/”Sorry”
Bieber brought kaleidoscopic neon visuals to his dynamic performance of “Company” and “Sorry,” putting a fresh spin on his Hot 100 chart-topper -- he even took home the Top Male Artist award shortly after his set.
7) Britney Spears, medley
Britney brought down the house with a run through most of her classics -- stripping down almost instantly from a military-inspired red jacket to a bejeweled red bikini, Spears went from “Work Bitch” to “Toxic” with an assist from a slew of leather-clad dancers.
6) Pink, “Just Like Fire”
A full-on Alice Through the Looking Glass theme made Pink’s jaw-dropping performance of soundtrack single “Just Like Fire” all the more impressive -- from trapeze to the shoulders of her backup dancers to the hands of an oversized flaming clock (really), Pink certainly upped the ante for the performances that followed.
5) Ariana Grande, “Dangerous Woman”/”Into You”
Ariana Grande kicked things off with a Vocoder-only performance of title track “Dangerous Woman,” and quickly transitioned into the dancefloor anthem “Into You” -- complete with a glut of backup dancers and pink (of course) smoke. Though the latter song has only been out a few weeks, members of the audience had no trouble singing along.
2015 Billboard Music Awards: 10 Best Performances
4) Rihanna, “Love on the Brain”
Rihanna brought out Anti deep cut “Love on the Brain” -- reviving the same green fur scheme she used during the debut performance of “Bitch Better Have My Money” and the aesthetic of her “FourFiveSeconds” Grammys performance -- and gave a top-notch vocal performance, flexing both her belt and falsetto to great effect (and leaving a few of the song’s more explicit moments, making the show’s censors a bit trigger happy).
3) Kesha, “It Ain't Me Babe”
Kesha and Ben Folds quieted the entire T-Mobile Arena with their evocative rendition of the 1964
Bob Dylan classic “It Ain't Me Babe” -- stripped down with stately strings, the performance showed off Kesha’s powerful voice. She kept things Dylan-esque, low and steady, waiting until the end to stretch her voice (and show her range), earning a standing ovation from the crowd.
2) Celine Dion ft. Lindsey Stirling, “The Show Must Go On”
To celebrate her Icon Award, Celine Dion gave an emphatic revival of Queen's "The Show Must Go On” -- complete with a full string orchestra and guest appearance by Lindsey Stirling . The performance was extra emotional, given that it was her first one on TV since the passing of her husband René Angélil.
1) Madonna & Stevie Wonder, “Nothing Compares 2 U”/”Purple Rain”
A solemn Questlove, wearing Prince ’s love symbol on his lapel, introduced the evening’s tribute with a moment of silence. After
Madonna slowly faced the arena from a purple throne, she began to sing “Nothing Compares 2 U” (famously covered by Sinead O’Connor). What the crowd wasn’t prepared for was when Stevie Wonder strolled onstage to help the pop icon lead "Purple Rain. Rihanna , dabbing in time, and
The Weeknd were singing along as the whole arena waved their light-up wristbands, which were, of course, purple.

Drake's 'Views' No. 1 for Third Week on Billboard 200, Meghan Trainor Debuts at No. 3

Drake ’s Views stays steady atop the Billboard 200 chart, as the album racks up a third straight week at No. 1. Views earned another 239,000 equivalent album units (down 24 percent) in the week ending May 19 in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 83,000 were in traditional album sales (down 53 percent).
Drake's 'Views' Spends Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200, Radiohead Debuts at No. 3
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new June 4-dated chart (where Views is No. 1 for a third week) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, May 24.
Views is the first album to spend three consecutive weeks at No. 1 since January, when
Adele’s 25 wrapped a seven-week run atop the list (of its 10 total nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1).
Views scored another stellar week with streaming services, as the album’s tracks earned 186.1 million streams. That’s up a big 32 percent compared to the previous week (140.8 million). The jump is owed to how the album became widely available to all streaming services on May 13, following two weeks of exclusivity with Apple Music.
Views now owns the top three largest streaming weeks for an album: its debut frame (245.1 million streams for its tracks), its third week (186.1 million) and its second week (140.8 million). In fourth and fifth place on that list are the debut weeks of of Beyonce ’s Lemonade (115.2 million streams) and Justin Bieber ’s
Purpose (100.4 million).
After only three weeks, Views has accumulated 572 million streams for its tracks.
Drake No. 1 on Artist 100, Radiohead & Justin Timberlake Blast to Top Five
Speaking of Lemonade, the album stays put at No. 2 for another week, tallying 128,000 units for the week (down 37 percent), with another 92,000 copies sold (down 40 percent). Lemonade was the week’s best selling album, and ranks at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart.
Coming in at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 is
Meghan Trainor ’s second full-length album,
Thank You , launching with 107,000 units (84,000 in pure album sales). The set follows her Title debut, which bowed at No. 1 in January of 2015 with 238,000 units and 195,000 copies sold.
The new album was led by the single “No,” which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marked the singer/songwriter’s fourth top 10-charting hit. The album’s second single, “Me Too,” is gaining steam on top 40 radio, and may debut on the new Pop Songs airplay chart dated June 4.
Thank You is Trainor’s third top 15-charting effort, following her Title EP (which peaked at No. 15 in September of 2014) and the full-length Title .
Rock band Pierce the Veil claims its highest charting album ever, and best sales week yet, as
Misadventures bows at No. 4 with 54,000 units (50,000 in traditional album sales). The group’s previous largest week came when its last album, 2012’s Collide With the Sky, launched at No. 12 with 27,000 sold.
Rihanna ’s Anti climbs 7-5 with just over 44,000 units (down 8 percent), Keith Urban ’s Ripcord slips 4-6 with 44,000 units (down 59 percent) and Prince ’s The Very Best of Prince falls 5-7 with 42,000 units (down 46 percent).
Meghan Trainor's 'Thank You' Heading for Top 3 Debut on Billboard 200
Chance the Rapper ’s Coloring Book makes a sizzling streaming-only debut, as the album bows at No. 8 with 38,000 units. The independently released set’s tracks generated 57.3 million streams. Coloring Book was released on May 13, exclusively via the Apple Music streaming service, and marks the first album to chart on the Billboard 200 solely from streams.
The set will remain exclusive to Apple Music until May 27, with it becomes available to other streaming services. There are no announced plans to release the album for sale.
It’s worth noting that while Coloring Book is the first album to chart on the list entirely from streams, Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo’s units are almost entirely driven by streams. The album is currently in its seventh week on the list, and in the latest tracking week, 99.93 percent of its units (21,000) were generated by streams. The other .07 percent were album sales. The set sold a handful of copies in the latest tracking frame, and hasn’t sold more than 1,000 copies in a week since its second chart week.
Radiohead ’s A Moon Shaped Pool descends 3-9 in its second week, earning 34,000 units (down 81 percent).
Jennifer Nettles ’ second album, Playing With Fire , lights up at No. 10, debuting with 33,000 units (31,000 in pure album sales). The singer’s first solo effort, That Girl, debuted and peaked at No. 5 in 2014 with 54,000 sold in its first week.
Of course, Nettles is also part of the country act
Sugarland , which has tallied six charting albums -- four of which reached the top 10. And, of those top 10 sets, three hit No. 1: Love on the Inside,
Live on the Inside , and The Incredible Machine

Lil Wayne Off The Hook In Trukfit Lawsuit

Lil Wayne was in deep trouble when a model sued him and his Trukfit clothing line last year for using a photoshopped image of her for one of its T-shirt designs.
Now, however, Weezy is off the hook as Shanise Taylor removed the rapper, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., from her case, the Jasmine Brand reports.
Taylor filed court documents May 3 to dismiss all claims against Lil Wayne and said both parties agreed to pay their own legal fees.
She is continuing her suit against Trukfit and Universal Music Group for using a modeling photo of her on a T-shirt design that was sold nationwide. She says she suffered emotional distress and a damaged reputation because the altered image shows her without underwear. For the photoshoot, Taylor did wear underwear, as is shown in the original image. She claims that the image was used without her permission, the changes made to the photo and her likeness being associated with a brand that promoted drugs, sex and violence, has hurt her personal brand.
(This article was first published November 26, 2015 and is as follows.)
Lil Wayne’s Trukfit clothing line is being sued by a model that appears on one of the brand’s shirts.
In legal documents obtained by TMZ , Shanise Taylor admits to posing for a photo shoot in 2011 but says she was never aptly informed that the shots were intended for commercial use by the brand.
Then, earlier this year, Taylor says that she spotted her photograph on a Trukfit shirt. She claims that the brand had altered the original photo to make it look like she wasn't wearing any underwear.
Taylor claims that she never signed off on the brand using her image and says she would never want her photograph “on apparel associated with misogyny and violence.”
She has subsequently enlisted the assistance of Miami-based law firm Mase Lara to help her fight the case against Lil Wayne and Trukfit. Taylor says she has been humiliated and in addition to seeking an unspecified amount of damages, she wants the shirt to be discontinued.

Mr. Vegas Calls Drake "Fake" For Not Crediting Popcaan & Beenie Man On "VIEWS"

Mr. Vegas called into Hot 97's Ebro In The Morning Monday (May 16) to clarify a statement he made on Facebook earlier this week calling Drake "fake" for not properly crediting Dancehall artists on VIEWS .
The Kingston, Jamaica-bred musician makes it clear that he doesn't appreciate Drizzy turning
Beenie Man into what he labels as an "intro artist" or "hype man" after sampling The King of Dancehall's "Tear Off Mi Garment" on
"Controlla" and for taking Popcaan off the same track much to the dismay of fans. Drake also sampled Popcaan's "Luh Yuh Bad" on "Too Good" which features the biggest Bajan singer you know, Rihanna .
"Why did Drake link Beenie Man to on sing back that record if that’s the one he wanted? Or why let Beenie Man do something new?” Mr. Vegas asks during his Facebook Live broadcast on Monday (May 16). "So then I’m listening to the record further and at the end of the record when the record done, you can hear the record fin, Beenie Man doing the outro. So I’m like, Drake is rampaning my artists. You using my artists as intro men."
Mr. Vegas admits during his interview with Ebro that he wishes Drake would have just visibly credited who was featured on the song, even though some of the reggae artists are named in the credits for VIEWS .
"On the records that Jamaican artists are sampled, no one even sees their names," he says. "If you were really into the culture and into the artists, at least you would have put some respeck on [their] names on the album."
"One Dance" is the only Dancehall-esque cut on VIEWS that visibly credited the artists sampled on the record, Nigerian musician WizKid and British singer Kyla.
"When a Drake or a Rihanna or anyone who has a big machine behind them, a Justin Bieber, make a dancehall record it goes to the top," Vegas continues. "When a dancehall record is from Jamaica and we take it to other markets outside of New York, Hartford and maybe Miami, we have a problem to get it on. If you are going to come to this culture put on properly and give them an opportunity to create a name for themselves outside of their base market. What is so wrong with giving someone proper crediting?"

Kanye West Facing $2.5 Million Lawsuit Over "New Slaves"

A Hungarian composer is suing Kanye West for $2.5 million, claiming that the rapper used one of his songs on "New Slaves " without his permission.
TMZ reports the news that Gabor Presser is taking Yeezy to court for the cut from Yeezus and says that West asked permission to use the song "Gyöngyhajú Lány," which is performed by the group Omega.
However, Presser says that a formal deal was never finalized. West sent him a $10,000 check for the rights to the song, but he never cashed the money.

Adele, Sam Smith & Ed Sheeran Help U.K. Achieve Record Global Market Share

According to, music streaming usage in the U.K. climbed 82 percent last year, but ad-funded platforms (like YouTube) accounted for only 4 percent of industry revenue.
Around one in every six albums sold worldwide in 2015 was by a U.K. artist, according to latest figures from labels trade body BPI.
Driven by chart-topping records from Adele , Sam Smith , Ed Sheeran and One Direction , among others, Brits share of the global artist albums market grew to a record high of 17.1 percent last year, up from 13.7 percent in 2014.
As previously reported, 2015 saw British artists claim their highest-ever share of the U.S. artist albums market, rising to 17.6 percent. In Canada, Brits held a 22 percent share of the market, while five of the top 10 biggest selling artist albums globally were by U.K. artists, including the year’s biggest selling album, Adele’s 25, which sold 17.4 million copies in 2015. Sheeran’s X , Smith’s
In The Lonely Hour , 1D's Made in the A.M. and
Coldplay's A Head Full of Dreams were among the year’s other top 10 selling artist albums.
Adele Wins Songwriter of the Year at U.K.'s Ivor Novello Awards
In Europe, U.K. artists’ share of album sales was even higher (25.9 percent, including U.K. sales), equating to one in every four albums sold. Taking domestic sales out of the equation, Brits still accounted for an impressive 16.1 percent share of all artist album sold in Europe last year. Home-grown artists’ share of the domestic album’s market also reached a 18-year high of 54.7 percent.
"It is hugely encouraging that demand for British music is so strong at home and abroad thanks to our brilliant artists and the continual innovation and investment of our record labels," said BPI chairman Geoff Taylor in a statement. "Yet the fact that sales revenues dipped in a record year for British music shows clearly that something is fundamentally broken in the music market, so that artists and the labels that invest in them no longer benefit fairly from growing demand."
Joining an ever-growing chorus of disapproval against YouTube, Taylor went on to lambast "dominant tech platforms" that are "able to abuse liability protections as royalty havens, dictating terms so they can grab the value from music for themselves, at the expense of artists."
"The long-term consequences of this will be serious, reducing investment in new music, making it difficult for most artists to earn a living, and undermining the growth of more innovative services like Spotify and Apple Music that pay more fairly for the music they use," he went on to say.
YouTube Star Hank Green Rebukes 'Value Gap' Arguments
According to BPIs Music Market Yearbook 2016, music streaming usage in the U.K. climbed 82 percent last year to total 26.6 billion plays (across both paid and free tiers) and deliver a 69 percent rise in revenues to £146 million ($212 million).
In contrast, revenues from ad-funded platforms, including YouTube, totaled just £24 million -- 4 percent of total industry revenues on a global basis and a 0.4 percent rise on the previous year, despite usage spiking by a mammoth 88 percent to total 27 billion streams -- equating to nearly a fifth of total music consumption.
"This is wrong. Music is precious -- it’s not a commodity to be strip-mined for big data," argues Taylor, who said the "problem requires urgent action by the EU, and our Government needs to take the lead in making sure it is tackled."
Spotify and Publishing Group Reach $30 Million Settlement Agreement Over Unpaid Royalties
Other data contained in the BPI sales round up included a 13.5 percent year-on-year drop in download album sales and 14.7 percent fall in download singles. Meanwhile, streams accounted for two thirds (66.4 percent) of the singles market and over a quarter (27.3 percent) of chart-eligible album sales.

Soulja Boy's $400 Million Deal Is With World Poker Fund Holdings

That "$400 million deal" Soulja Boy tweeted about earlier this month? It’s very real and the client who’s paying the rapper that kind of money is World Poker Fund Holdings, the publicly traded gaming company behind CelebrityWorld.com.
World Poker Fund confirmed the 5-year endorsement deal on Friday, calling Soulja Boy "one of most influential urban entertainers and artist on social media today." The 25-year-old Atlanta native will harness his sizable social media following (15 million strong) to help promote World Poker’s gaming assets, which will soon include an "in-flight gaming" platform.
"I invest in things I understand," Soulja Boy said. "I enjoy music, and of course gaming. Being an influencer is a form of currency. Having portfolio diversification is critical if you want to be an effective brand ambassador. With regards to World Poker Fund, I believe in its strategy, its team, the vision, and management’s ability to target its financial goals."
Soulja Boy Strikes Deal with FilmOn
A publicist for World Poker said it was individual influencers like Soulja Boy, and not the brands themselves, that drive loyalty. "We no longer are fed content from major news networks -- we seek it out and consume it by individual influencers that enrich our lifestyles," said Matthew Bird . "Soulja Boy represents the best of the best and we are already seeing the impact from his presence."

J. Cole Snags Third Platinum Single

Even though 2014 Forest Hills Drive was released a year and a half ago, J. Cole is still reaping the rewards from his third studio album. The cut "No Role Modelz" is now certified platinum by the RIAA, the organization announced on Twitter yesterday (May 19).
This is the North Carolina spitter's third song to sell more than one million copies. The other two tracks are " Power Trip ," featuring Miguel, from Born Sinner and Cole's breakout single "Work Out," which appears on Cole World: The Sideline Story .
The RIAA changed its certification process earlier this year to include audio and video streams into its sales reports.
2014 Forest Hills Drive was certified platinum in January before the rules change.

Lil Wayne To Star In "Lil Wayne's House" VH1 Reality Show

Can't get enough Lil Wayne? Apparently, you will soon be able to catch Weezy on his new VH1 reality show, Lil Wayne's House .
The news of the show comes via Young Money's Stephanie Acevedo , who speaks in a
Facebook video with plastic surgeon Dr. Miami about the venture.
"We just got a contract with VH1," she says. "We're going to be doing a reality show that we're gonna be shooting in July in LA."
Acevedo gives insight into the storyline of the program, which seemingly will feature the Young Money roster. Other artists signed to the label, besides heavyweights Drake and
Nicki Minaj , include Chanel West Coast , Cory Gunz, Lil Twist and Mack Maine .
"It's just basically us coming together as artists," she says, "as a family, collaborating. Wayne's gonna be our mentor."
Lil Wayne has acted in multiple commercials recently, including one for Super Bowl 50 with apartments.com . This will be Tunechi's first time with his own television show, but he did host his Weezy Wednesday video blog in 2014.

50 Cent's $23 Million Payment Plan Approved By Judge

A judge has approved 50 Cent's proposed,
bankruptcy payment plan .
Bankruptcy may soon be a thing of the past for Queens rapper 50 Cent if a bankruptcy payment plan is approved by 50's creditors.
MarketWatch.com reports that as part of the payment plan, the musician will be required to pay a little over $23 million in future earnings to his creditors.
Among the creditors looking to get into 50's pockets are Sunburst Bank, Sleek Audio LLC, SunTrust Banks Inc., and ASCAP. 50 Cent's total debt stands at $32.6 million, and with the proposed plan he'll have to pay between 74% and 92% of that amount.
According to MarketWatch.com, the rapper shared his belief that "reorganization under the plan is feasible and that the plan provides for the greatest recoveries.”
The payment plan has already been approved by a judge in the matter, but will also have to be voted on by 50 Cent's creditors. Voting is scheduled to take place later this month.
50 Cent filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection nearly one year ago. The announcement came shortly after he was ordered to pay Rick Ross' ex, Lastonia Leviston $5 million, after posting a sex tape of the woman online.

5 Questions That Remain After This Week's 'Empire' Finale

Wednesday night’s (May 18) Empire finale arrived with its fair share of cliffhangers. At top of the show, the Internet breathed a deep sigh of relief as the episode, titled "Past Is Prologue," opened with R&B crooner Jamal Lyon returning home in a wheelchair after he was shot in last week's show . Though he appeared physically well, Jamal's spirit appeared broken after his family’s lifestyle turned him and his collaborator, Freda Gatz (played by female MC Bre-Z ), into victims. Jamal also swore off music and refused to perform at his brother Hakeem's wedding, which was a short-lived affair.
In other tweet-worthy news, Rhonda bum rushes Lucious’ office and tries to knock out the pregnant Boo Boo Kitty. As their confused loved ones look on, Rhonda reveals that she knows Anika (a.k.a. Boo Boo Kitty and Lucious' fiance) pushed her down the stairs, causing her miscarriage, but nobody -- including her husband, Andre -- believes her.
Later on in the episode, Andre tells Hakeem that Rhonda left him to launch a business with her friend across the country, but in reality, Rhonda was plotting to take Anika out as the two women are found by Dre (of course) fighting on a balcony where Boo Boo Kitty admits to pushing Rhonda. Shortly after, Dre screams "Noooo!," suggesting that someone has fallen over the ledge.
To add to the drama surrounding Boo Boo Kitty, she and Lucious get hitched moments before Rhonda attacks her in a scheme to protect her in court so that she wouldn't have to testify against the head Lyon. The surprise nuptials leave Cookie heartbroken and Jamal singing a song written for his brother and runaway bride titled “ Hemmingway .” Twisted sidebar: Marrying Anika also makes Lucious the step-father/grandfather of her unborn child.
Scratch your head with these remaining questions following Empire's Season 2 finale below.
'Empire' Star Jussie Smollett Teases New Original Song 'Hemmingway'
1. What’s the deal with Grandma Lyon?
Grandma Lyon continues to leave breadcrumbs about her son's (real name Dwight) corrupted past. She exposed last night that Tyriq, the cop involved with Cookie’s sister Carol, is actually Lucious’ half brother. In a flashback, Grandma Lyon also reveals that that her husband was an officer and that Lucious saw him shot in the head, piling on the traumatic situations that he witnessed during his childhood.
2. Will Lucious Free Freda Gatz?
Gatz makes her sole appearance when Lucious visits her in the clink and has her spit a rhyme that he passes to Jamal, ultimately bringing his son out of a depression and back to music.
3. Will D-Major Come Out For Jamal?
Jamal’s part-time lover and producer D-Major was right by his side as he recovered and recorded at home, leaving a question mark about the future of their romance.
The 10 Best Songs from 'Empire,' In Order
4. Who Will Survive on Empire?
It's a toss-up between Rhonda or Anika after their balcony rumble but knowing writer Lee Daniels, the plot will continue to thicken.
5. Will Cookie Seek Revenge?
After Lucious' impromptu matrimony, retaliation could be in the cards for the Lyoness. Season 3 could either see the revenge or crumbling of Cookie, which is sure to provide primetime entertainment when the drama returns this fall.

The Recording Academy Considering Mixtapes For GRAMMYs Nominations

Thanks to a petition calling on the Recording Academy to consider free music as part of their eligibility requirements, Chance the Rapper's chance of scoring a GRAMMY may happen sooner than later.
The organization is now considering revising their eligibility requirements to include artists such as Chance who choose to make their music available to everyone for free, the
International Business Times reports.
"Not all artists should be forced to release their music for free, but the ones who do should not be punished for doing so," the petition, which
has been signed by over 27,000 supporters including Chance the Rapper, read.
Under their current rules, the Recording Academy only considers music that is sold commercially, ignoring a growing group of artists, mainly in Hip Hop, who choose to make their music available to everyone.
Chance addressed the archaic GRAMMY Award nomination process on his verse for
Kanye West 's "Ultralight Beam."
"He said let's do a good ass job with Chance three," the 23-year-old rapped.  "I hear you gotta sell it to snatch the Grammy / Let's make it so free and the bars so hard / That there ain't one gosh darn part you can't tweet."
Acknowledging the shift in the way music is consumed, a spokesperson from the Recording Academy released the following statement to International Business Times .
"The Grammy Awards process is fluid and, like music, continues to evolve. As a peer-voted award, the awards process is also peer-determined. Each spring, music creators in the community work with Recording Academy staff to prepare and submit proposals, which are then reviewed by the Board and announced shortly thereafter."
Additionally, the Academy tells IBT that an adjustment could be made in time for the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in 2017 with any changes announced in June. Proposals are currently still being reviewed by the organization.
Chance released his Coloring Book freebie, yesterday May 13 to much fanfare from fans and peers alike . The project could be one of the first mixtapes the Recording Academy considers for a Grammy nomination should eligibility requirements change.

Michael B. Jordan Added To Marvel's "Black Panther" Movie

The mega success of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War ($700 million worldwide and counting ) has set the stage for Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther title, who made his official debut in the film.
Black Panther has a date of February 16, 2018 locked in and The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the studio was able to secure more star power ahead of the early 2017 production date: Michael B. Jordan.
While the burgeoning superstar's role has not been specified, it's largely believed he will play a villain. Marvel opted not to comment on the matter altogether.
Jordan, 29, has superhero experience, having played Johnny Storm a.k.a. The Human Torch in the box office bomb, Fantastic Four and may ultimately become the living example on
the widespread belief that there is a clear-cut difference between 20th Century Fox and Marvel when it comes to portraying the storied characters.
Black Panther is currently in negotiations to nab Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong’o to co-star alongside Boseman. The film will also reunite Jordan with his Fruitvale Station and
Creed director, Ryan Coogler.

Chris Brown Facing Disturbing The Peace Charges For Doing Donuts On Neighbor's Lawn

The Los Angeles Police Department are seeking to charge Chris Brown for disturbing the peace after his neighbors called in complaining about him riding his ATV around his Tarzana, California neighborhood on Wednesday (May 11).
Police say residents identified Brown and members of his crew and accused them of performing dangerous stunts around children,
Los Angeles Times reports.
"We had a citizen complain about two males in the area, riding ATVs, at high rate of speed through the alleys," Sgt. James Harper, with the LAPD's West Valley division tells ABC News 7 . "The citizen saw a person he recognized as Chris Brown in the area. At that point, he came on to his property, did a couple of doughnuts on his front lawn."
Los Angeles Police Capt. Paul Vernon says one resident asked Breezy to stop and the R&B singer in turn cursed him out before riding the ATV back to his house and parking it in his garage.
The GRAMMY Award-winning singer also allegedly exchanged words with the neighbor telling him, "Fuck you and fuck the cops," according to TMZ .
Once police arrived at his gate, the singer's security detail denied them entry and asked that they call his lawyer.
A complaint has been filed with the Los Angeles city attorney who will then decide if they will pursue charges.
Neighbors have called the police on Brown five times since he moved in to the Los Angeles suburb last year.
Chris dumped his West Hollywood condo last summer, where tenants also had an acute disdain for him and often complained about his parties and the bright-colored graffiti monsters plastered against the wall of his condo outside.
Earlier today (May 14), Breezy was back at it again, this time taking it slower with his daughter Royalty and his best friend Tyga's son King in tow, capturing it all on his Snapchat story.

Foxy Brown Claims She Was Robbed Of $100,000 At American Airlines Baggage Claim

Former female rap mainstay Foxy Brown largely flies under the radar these days but apparently she's still jet setting wherever there is a check and audience who will have her.
Unfortunately for the 37-year-old veteran artist from Brooklyn, her recent luck at the airport allegedly has her out of six-figures worth of valuables.
According to a passionate, all caps lock Instagram testimonial, Brown (born Inga Marchand) says she had just landed in California for her appearance at a Greater Palm Springs LGBT Festival , when she noticed that a thief had gotten away some of her most prized possessions.
"FAMILY," Brown wrote to Instagram followers on her page that is cluttered with low-res videos, "you know I’m an exceedingly strong woman and have endured what would’ve flatlined most; but I need to air out a very personal, disturbing VIOLATION (which we plan to address further publicly). Fans saw my performance at the PALM SPRINGS, CALI GAY PRIDE FESTIVAL last FRIDAY but what you guys didn’t know…(trusting the investigative process takes it’s course) is that I was ROBBED hours before the show (luggage stolen on videotape) at LAX AIRPORT for over 100K worth of my most valuable, LUXURY possessions at the @AMERICANAIRLINES BAGGAGE CLAIM."
She later bigged herself up for her ability to persevere over all adversity.
"Still, (filled with ineffable fury) I could NOT disappoint my LGBT FANS; mustered the strength to perform and lit the stage! Airport security was immediately alerted and we’ve spoken to Detectives, but the THIEF who’s on CAMERA FOOTAGE is still on these streets!!! Material things can very well be replaced, but some items are true FOX VINTAGE and we’re horrified that a week later we have NO answers."
Brown hasn't released a studio album since 2001 and a mixtape since 2008 but the foundation she laid dating back to her mainstream debut Ill Na Na (which awarded her with a platinum at the age of 18) amounted to a loyal fanbase. Even when the musical hiatuses left her to her own devices. Her run-ins with the law have dominated her career timeline, most notably, being sentenced to a year in jail in 2007. (She only did a little over a month , however.)
Her behavior has led fans to question the state of her overall sanity, which she reignited that feeling with thoughts of religion and references to Biggie's murder all in the same breath.
"We intend to vigorously pursue until JUSTICE is served and my possessions found. My ABIDING FAITH IN CHRIST?? kept me thru my most vicious storms, so to THIS just know I’m SUITED UP IN HIS ARMOR watch him MOVE!," she promised. "Not just the “protocol” of the AIRLINE but the slow feedback from law enforcement shocks the conscience. I’m definitely NO 'conspiracy theorist' but we were there the night my close friend BIGGIE? was murdered and more often than not, HIP HOP stars are blatantly targeted or their plights swept under the rug. Cut from the cloth of the “go hard” who, (before FOXY BROWN ever existed) chose not to retreat but go hard, so every young black boy and girl is afforded swift justice when VIOLATED, gives us the fight to find this bastard."
