Barack Obama on His Favorite Rappers: 'Kendrick & Chance Are Doing Amazing Work'

President Obama and music share a storied past. Obama has expressed his passion for music and illustrated that he's hip to today's rising talent in many ways, from inviting musical guests to nearly every White House event -- his Fourth of July Barbeque, the final White House State Dinner and more -- to hosting the first ever South by South Lawn music festival.
On Friday (Oct. 28), Obama called in to share who his favorite rappers are on the radio show Sway in the Morning, which airs on Eminem's SiriusXM channel Shade 45. When host Sway Calloway asked, "Who are the top rappers in the game, in your opinion?" Obama was quick to reply.
"Kendrick and Chance are doing amazing work," he said -- two artists who frequent the White House. Obama also said, "I love Drake, and the girls love Drake, so he's commercially just doing great and [is] unbelievably talented." Obama went on to say he and Chance have been "family for a while," as he first met the now-famous artist when he was only 8 years old back in Chicago.

Lupe Fiasco Calls Kid Cudi a 'Disrespectful Clown' Amid Drake Beef

LUPE FIASCO inserted himself into Kid Cudi and Drake's beef on Friday (Oct. 28), making it clear he has no sympathy Cudi even if he is checked in to rehab.
"Can somebody please send me a meme/pic of a duck in a barbershop getting a fade..thanx in advance," Lupe posted to Twitter before posting a picture of Drake laughing.
And though Fiasco took some head for entering into the beef, the Chicago emcee admitted he was being "childish and petty" but insisted Cudi deserved it. He also called Cudi a "disrespectful clown" and questioned what Cudi was even doing responding to Drake's diss on "Two Birds, One Stone" while in to rehab.

But as "childish and petty" as Cudi was being, he also said he would forgive Cudi if he just apologized.

With “Priorities 5” Mixtape, MMG Prove The Talent Is Still Flourishing

With “Priorities 5” Mixtape, MMG Prove The Talent Is Still Flourishing

Maybach Music Group members may churn out compilations like they’re jacked up on Red Bull but since 2011, the extensive music imprint that Rick Ross created has released three installments of its Self Made series, and since 2013 there are have been five mixtapes in the Priorities series. With Priorities numero cinco being the latest in the bunch questions of overkill are warranted.
But in short answer, this particular sequel is justified. Despite its hampering length (22 songs in total) and incongruity, Priorities 5 is still a solid collection of tunes that underlines the strength and diversity of its roster.
The mixtape’s themes represent its variety of artists, from Too $hort to Talib Kweli. Balling out, chasing women, and repping the streets all are MMG mainstay topics that are touched on abundantly. Skrilla is a solo menace on the trapping ode “Fork in the Pot” and also shines alongside Rozay and Sam Sneak on the swaggerful “Supa Cindy,” which glorifies a girl on her ‘A’ game. Yet, there also moments that allow team leaders in Wale and Meek Mill to channel their inner lyrical Hannibal Lecter, feasting on “Brightseat Road Freestyle” (Wale) and “Freestyle on Flex” (Meek Mill). The latter finds Meek vividly painting life in his hood over Jay-Z’s “Where I’m From”: “My young boy Sheebs was supposed to go the league/Started poppin’ on them P’s, runnin’ around with the fleas/All them A’s and them B’s start to turn into C’s/Go from crossin’ niggas over into runnin’ from D’s.” Moments like these keep Priorities 5from being a simple celebration. However, while the range of content is entertaining, it also creates an unfocused vibe. This is a detriment to the overall product, as songs usually don’t complement one another (say, the Bawse’s hardcore “No Uturns” preceding Stalley and Rashad’s grounded, purist-friendly “The Gospel”).
The ultimate upside is the tape gives the lesser artists the spotlight. Isa Muhammad bodies “Chemtrails and Muslim Wars (Remix)” alongside Ross and Kweli, with brilliant pro-black sentiments. Elsewhere, Rockie Fresh makes a name for himself with declarations of spiritual gratefulness on “Pray 4 Me.” The wistful soul of the record, as well as the elongated humming on “Chemtrails and Muslim Wars (Remix)” also bring diversity to a mixtape that is heavy on MMG’s signature trap drums and bombastic backdrops. This familiar sound works best on Meek’s hyped-up “Make It Work,” but is painfully beat-by-numbers on “Check” by Fat Trel, Young Dolph and Rozay. Similar to the content, the varied production is exciting but also belies a lack of cohesiveness.
Team Maybach was wise in giving Wale, Fresh, and Mill each three straight songs for instant star power, and the supporting cast make for an engaging listen all the same. The project may create a bloated effect, but there are plenty of selections worth grabbing from this buffet table.

Whether that means he’s going to work on a new album, we can only speculate.

ay Z Is First Rapper To Be Nominated For Songwriters Hall of Fame

Jay Z Is First Rapper To Be Nominated For Songwriters Hall of FameJay Z has been nominated for the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2017, the Associated Press reports. If inducted, the mogul would become the first rapper to enter the esteemed music organization.
Jay is the first Hip Hop artist to be nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame, which songwriters become eligible for after writing hits for 20 years. Jigga’s 1996 album Reasonable Doubt began his trek into superstardom where he’d release favorable hits such as “Hard Knock Life,” “Empire State Of Mind” and “Big Pimpin’,” among many others. The LP celebrated its 20th anniversary in June.
Roc Nation took the time out to congratulate its founder on Twitter.
Other nominees in the running for the Songwriters Hall of Fame include George Michael, Madonna, Bryan Adams, Vince Gill, Babyface, Max Martin and Kool & the Gang.
After voters turn in their official ballots in November, the 2017 Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held June 15 in New York City.

Internet Survives Third & Final Presidential Debate Between Donald Trump & Hillary Clinton

Internet Survives Third & Final Presidential Debate Between Donald Trump & Hillary ClintonThe third and final presidential debate was presented to anxious Americans last night (October 19) at the University of Nevada Las Vegas where Democratic candidateHillary Clinton squared off against Republican nominee Donald Trump.
While seemingly fewer Hip Hop figures chimed in on this debate than past showdowns, several people shared their commentary on Twitter as the two candidates discussed immigration, abortion and the selection of the next Supreme Court Justice. Trump’s less-than-eloquent lines about getting rid of the “bad hombres” and calling his opponent a “nasty woman” were easy targets for social media fodder.
With Election Day (November 8) around the corner, the candidates are in the final stretch to win votes.
Check out the internet reactions to the third and final presidential debate below.

Drake Gets Trolled By DJ Steph Floss As Toronto Blue Jays Lose To Cleveland Indians

Drake Gets Trolled By DJ Steph Floss As Toronto Blue Jays Lose To Cleveland IndiansNot even the blessing of Lil B could help the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 5 of the American League title, as Drake’s hometown team was eliminated by the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday (October 19) on a score of 3-0.
DJ Steph Floss, the official DJ of the NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers, had been trading jabs with Drake over Instagram in a friendly rivalry throughout the series, but took a pretty devastating parting shot for Game 5. The clip shows the superstar singer siding with Cleveland’s team in his younger days.
A video posted by DJ Steph Floss (@djstephfloss) on
Drake endured a barrage of posts after the Blue Jays lost the first three games of the series, with Floss meme-ing Drizzy‘s life away over the superiority of his team.
Drake, for his part, hadn’t taken the bait … Until the Blue Jays came back into the series in Game 4, at which point he had to shoot back with his own picture of Floss apparently taking part in some stretches in the Jays’ blues-and-whites. Being a global superstar and all that, Drake racked up over 200,000 likes on his jab … But that’s not much consolation after Wednesday’s game.

The Indians had looked well on their way to steamrolling past the Blue Jays and into the World Series until they took a 5-1 loss on Tuesday (October 18).
Before that, Floss had been going hard on Instagram, tagging Drizzy in post after post reminding him that the Blue Jays hadn’t been able to match up to the Ohio team in the playoff series. Floss has essentially posted game-by-game updates for each matchup that the Indians have taken the W.
The trolling has included snaps of Drake throwing a pitch while wearing an Indians jersey, with the caption ‘Aaaawwwkward!’

Ice Cube Makes Case For Tupac's Hall Of Fame Induction

Ice Cube, who has been vocal about N.W.A belonging in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a rap group, now voices his support for Tupac to get the honor. The late, great Cali rapper was announced yesterday (October 18) as a nominee for the Class of 2017.
“I think we need our own Hall of Fame to be honest, but Tupac definitely needs to go into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Cube says to TMZ.
N.W.A had a long journey into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, being nominated several times, but was finally inducted this year, much to the frustration of KISS singer and Class of 2014 member Gene Simmons.
“It don’t matter, as long as you get in, baby,” Cube says of Tupac’s first nomination despite naysayers like Simmons who don’t think rap belongs in the Hall.
The Class of 2017 inductees will be announced in December.

Bobby Shmurda Outburst At Official Sentencing: "They Lied To Me"

Bobby Shmurda Outburst At Official Sentencing: "They Lied To Me"The “Hot N*gga” rapper appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court by himself, without his co-defendants Chad “Rowdy Rebel” Marshall and Nicholas McCoy.
Shmurda, born Ackquille Pollard, entered a deal September 9 where he pleaded guilty to charges of 4th-degree conspiracy and 2nd-degree criminal weapons possession. Shmurda agreed to have no appeal but gets credit for time served, which is two years since he was taken into custody in December 2014.
In court, the 22-year-old MC expressed frustration after he previously told Complex that heaccepted the deal to help Rowdy Rebel out.
“I was forced to take this plea. I do not want to take this plea!” reporter Jennifer Cunningham tweeted, quoting Shmurda’s reaction in court.
“They lied to me,” Billboard added that he said.
Judge Abraham Clott denied a request from Shmurda’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, to delay the official sentencing.
Shmurda and members of the GS9 gang were arrested in New York in December 2014 on various weapons and murder charges. The Epic Records signee’s bail was set at $2 million and multiple attempts to post the bail were denied.
Throughout the case, Shmurda’s legal team and family criticized the justice system for seemingly making an example out of the upcoming rapper.

Tupac Nominated For The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Tupac Earns 2017 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Nomination
In what feels like a long overdue moment, the late Tupac Shakur has officially received a nomination to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside punk pioneers Bad Brains, funk/R&B/soul singer Chaka Khan, grunge rock trailblazers Pearl Jam, and pop sensation Janet Jackson.
To qualify for the 2017 class, an artist must have a release that’s at least 25 years old, which means 1991’s 2Pacalypse Now makes him eligible.
Born in Harlem, but representing the West Coast, Shakur embodied the spirit of Hip Hop with his brutally honest tales of growing up on the unforgiving streets and his use of a wide range of samples from different genres. From “The Way It Is” by Bruce Hornsby and the Range on “Changes” to “Dance Floor” by the Zapp Band on “California Love,” his depth of musical knowledge apparently ran deep.
Although the Cleveland, Ohio-based Rock Hall boasts an expansive musical range of inductees since the foundation launched in 1983, there have only been a handful of Hip Hop artists who have received the honor, including N.W.A (inducted by Kendrick Lamar earlier this year), Beastie Boys (inducted by Chuck D and LL Cool J), Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five (inducted by Jay Z), Public Enemy, and Run-D.M.C.

Obama Has Jay Z, Drake & Beyonce On His Workout Playlist

Obama Has Jay Z, Drake & Beyonce On His Workout PlaylistEver wondered what President Barack Obama listens to while pumping iron? Well, now you can because he generously shared his presidential workout playlist as guest-editor ofWIRED’s November issue.
The 10-track playlist includes Jay Z’s Blueprint 3 cut “Off That” featuring Drake, Beyonce’s “Get Me Bodied,” Black Eyed Peas’ “Let’s Get It Started” and Bob Marley and the Wailers’ jam “Could You Be Loved,” among others.
This summer the president released two playlists through Spotify for the sunny season that included cuts from Nas, Common, Chance the Rapper, Pharrell, and of course Jigga, among many other musicians.
Barry’s high-intensity playlists go hand-in-hand with his wife’s, the First Lady Michelle Obama, health initiative to get American kiddos active with her Let’s Move! campaign.
The President is a huge fan of Hip Hop so his playlist selection shouldn’t be that surprising. He had Wale perform before his State of the Union address and Kendrick Lamar performed at the White House this past Fourth of July.
The only person missing from Barry O’s playlist is his favorite rapper, K. Dot.

Sales Projections Are In For The Game's "1992" & Gucci Mane's "Woptober"

Sales Projections Are In For The Game's "1992" & Gucci Mane's "Woptober"The week’s sale projections are here.
The Game’s new 1992 album is expected to sell somewhere between 21,000 and 24,000 copies without taking streams into account. With the streams factored in, it looks like the album is still coming in under the 30,000 mark, with the cumulative total at around 27,000 sales maximum, according to projections from Hits Daily Double.
The Game’s most recent album, Documentary 2.5, moved 48,000 equivalent album units when it debuted last October. Despite the reduction, 1992 is still poised to outsell what Meek Mill predicted on his “OOOUUU” remix.
Check out HipHopDX’s glowing review of 1992 here.
Meanwhile, Gucci Mane’s latest effort Woptober is expected to sell around 20,000 equivalent album units, based solely off streams.
Woptober follows hot on the heels of this summer’s Everybody Looking, which peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. The ATL rapper has also announced his third post-prison project The Return of East Atlanta Santa, expected December 16.

Drake Has Spotify's Most-Streamed Song Ever

Drake Has Spotify's Most-Streamed Song EverDrake has another record under his belt as he officially has the most-streamed song on Spotify with “One Dance.” The streaming service reports that the smash hit has surpassed 880 million plays on its international platform. This beats out Diplo and DJ Snake’s “Lean On,” which took the crown last year with 526 million plays across the planet.
“One Dance,” which features Wiz Kid and Kyla, was Drizzy’s first-ever song to top Billboard’s Hot 100 chart back in May. VIEWS, the album that hosts the dancehall-inspired cut, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s 200 chart upon its April release and hasn’t slipped lower than #4 since. The LP has more than 1 billion streams on Spotify’s rival Apple Music, which debuted the project.
Drake also took the title for most American Music Award nominations ever earlier this month. He scored 13 nods, which surpassed Michael Jackson’s 11, a record that stood for 32 years.

Halle Berry Says She's Never Even Met Ric Flair Let Alone Slept With Him

Halle Berry is not happy with WWE legend Ric Flair waltzing around with the story that he gave her the d after she divorced David Justice.
A rep for the award-winning actress spoke with TMZ and says that Berry has never even heard of Flair and that she did not have sex with him.
“There is NO truth to this!” the source says of the wrestler’s claims he made on his podcast. “Halle has literally never even heard of him let alone met him!!!”
Yes, the statement has three exclamation points.
(This article was first published October 3, 2016 and is as follows.)
Academy Award-winning actress and one of Hip Hop’s most coveted women of all time, Halle Berry is, unfortunately, making headlines for what someone said about her.
That someone would be WWE legend Ric Flair, who had no shame in his game about having loose lips when he was asked about his celebrity conquests on his self-titled show/podcast.
The 67-year-old retired pro wrestler was fielding questions from his callers when the topic of had any famous women ever rode “Space Mountain” came up. He then immediately outed the 50-year-old movie star who is renown for her roles in
Catwoman, the original X-Men film trilogy and 2001’s Monster’s Ball , where she infamously won an Oscar for a flick where the only memorable scene was a sex romp between her and Billy Bob Thornton.
“You want me to start with Halle Berry?” he asked before laughing with “Of course she did” when the “Space Mountain” passenger log-in sheet was referenced.
“She was in Atlanta and just got divorced from David Justice,” he told his co-host Conrad Thompson. “Would I have to make up a lie?”
I just saw the nature boy was trending and I feared Ric Flair was dead! Nope he just claimed he banged Halle Berry

Known for his eccentric style — in terms of not only fashion but wrestling techniques as well — Flair is the only two-time WWE Hall of Famer in history, having been inducted both individually and as a member of the Four Horsemen. In 2011, Killer Mike released his fourth studio album titled PL3DGE which featured a braggadocious record titled “Ric Flair.”
Although Berry was the only celebrity starlet the Nature Boy had the balls to name, he did blurt out “Oh gosh, several dozen,” alluding to the possibility that he have a few more ways to make his show a trending topic.

Logic Reveals Upcoming Album Title: 'AfricAryaN'

Logic recently dropped by as a guest for an episode of Dan Harmon’s Harmontown podcast, in which he shared both the title of and meaning behind his upcoming album AfricAryaN.
During the episode, the multiracial hip-hop artist said the album title is about "being black and white, and seeing life from two sides, and about that cultural evolution and how you can go from the darkest of skin to the lightest of skin."
Although, following the podcast, Logic's management said in a statement to DJ Booth that AfricAryaN is just a working title and "nothing is solidified."
