DJ KHALED has made a career out of bringing his famous friends together on records. And tonight, he brought that experience to the AMAs stage as Nicki Minaj, Future, Rick Ross and August Alsina came out with Khaled for his song "Do You Mind," off his latest record Major Key, which became his first-ever No. 1, and sixth top 10, on the Billboard 200 in August.
Khaled opened the performance at the front of the stage while Nicki started her verse on top of a staircase set up towards the back, surrounded by palm trees, before August came down to deliver the hook as Khaled's ad-libs made sure that no one forgot whose song it was. Future and Ross -- the latter who earlier announced his ninth album would be titled Rather You Than Me -- then emerged to split their verses, while Khaled led the crowd every step of the way. It was an image of superstar power, if not a performance of one.
"Do You Mind" hit a No. 39 peak on the Hot 100 this week, its 14th on the chart. This was Minaj's second performance of the evening, following her duet with Ariana Grande, "Side to Side," earlier in the night; Jeremih and Chris Brown, who are also featured on the original "Do You Mind" record, were not in attendance, though Alsina held down the hook.
